Castle by the Sand: Conrad Fort Lauderdale Beach Grand Opening
On Thursday, December 14, the Conrad Fort Lauderdale Beach held a spectacular grand opening celebration worthy of its illustrious moniker. Located just steps away from the sun kissed sands of the ever-popular Fort Lauderdale Beach between Sunrise and Las Olas Boulevard, the 290 all-suite property marks the second Conrad property to open in Florida—the other being the Conrad Miami in downtown Miami.
“We’re excited about this destination,” said Joe Berger, Executive Vice President & President, Americas for Hilton. “There is a luxury traveler that knows Fort Lauderdale and is comfortable in Fort Lauderdale.
“I’ve been involved in the Fort Lauderdale market for probably 17 years…I’ve really watched [it] kind of come into its own in the hospitality world and as a leisure destination. Over time Fort Lauderdale has certainly grown into great restaurants, a great culinary and beverage destination… and it’s really time for the luxury hotels to enter this market.”
Taking inspiration from the golden era of high-end cruise lines, the Conrad Fort Lauderdale Beach distinguishes itself as a design-centric hotel offering nautically decorated guest rooms equipped with galley kitchens, 50-inch HDTVs and balconies overlooking the Atlantic Ocean or Intracoastal Waterway.
“The definition of a luxury hotel is by architecture and design, so it has got to be good rooms, designed well, and that’s becoming more and more important especially ergonomically,” said John T. Vanderslice, Global Head of Luxury & Lifestyle Brands, of Hilton Worldwide.
Wining and (Casually) Dining
There are a total of four dining and bar experiences at the Conrad Fort Lauderdale Beach, including Terra Mare, the resort’s signature oceanfront restaurant serving locally sourced land and sea shared plate dining options from a spacious tiered patio, and the Atlas Cocktail Lounge, where master mixologists create handcrafted cocktails that are equally pleasing to the palate and the eye.
“In luxury, our restaurants are destinations to themselves,” said Vanderslice. “We are seeing with this new luxury customer, our F&B (Food and beverage) is becoming more casual.” Take the resort’s gourmet marketplace Cornucopia for example. This grab-and-go outlet offers artisanal cuisine, flatbreads, pastries and organic juices for a quick, yet tasty bite.
The crowning jewel of the Conrad Fort Lauderdale Beach, figuratively speaking, is the 20,000 square-foot ocean-facing pool deck located on the sixth floor.
“My favorite part of the property is the pool deck,” said Berger. “It’s got all the right components. I love where we’ve located the pools and where we located the bar, and it’s just a great place to go to relax and unwind and kind of be yourself.”
Additional amenities and services at the Conrad Fort Lauderdale Beach include the signature Conrad 1/3/5 destination itineraries, the 4,000 square-foot Conrad Spa and around-the-clock concierge service.
